I have really dark brown hair and I want to color my hair to a chocolate brown?

My hair is black brown ish but I really want to have like a milk chocolate glossy brown idk if that makes sense. I bought loreal superior preference in this dark soft mahogany brown but idk if its going to show up brown because my hair is really dark? Do you think I should exchange this and buy a lighter shade just incase it wont show up my color? Thanks
