Is affiliate marketing an actual business and how does one get started?

Its difficult to make money in affiliate marketing like click bank,amazon etc,since you're not selling product directly.Instead why not try to sell products directly on ebay such as electronics,clothing,auto parts or whatever you like.For this you'll have to buy products in wholesale initially from the manufacturer,but as you start selling you can start to profit from it.
