Hamster questions - 10 points!?

So I have decided that I want to get a Winter White Hamster. I am wondering which sex smells worse. I know that does smell worse when they are in heat, but I also know that males urine is stronger. In your experience which is worse? A female in heat every 4 days or a males urine. I will be bedding the hamster in aspen bedding, I will be putting 3 drops of vanilla in the hamsters water. I will also clean the cage once a week. Please help me with suggestions on how to make the hamster odor less. I am hoping the vanilla extract will help the urine... will it? A lot of people have said it works.
