U.S. Property changed to Canadian?

Ok say I own a piece of u.s. land touching the u.s./canadian boarder. Is it possible to convert my land to Canadian land since I am the land owner? If not than why did I pay for the land if I can't decied what nation I want it to be affiliated with?
